Liz Mitchell Leading Couture
As one of New Zealand’s leading couture designer, Liz Mitchell’s name is synonymous with red carpet glamour. In 2005, Liz was awarded the MNZN, for her services to the Fashion Industry. Combining timeless glamour with a strong modern edge, her clothes are chosen and worn for their gorgeous colours, luxurious fabrics and their sheer sense of glamour.
Liz Mitchell established her own label in 1990 and set up her first retail store in 1994. For many years her salon was based in Elliott Street’s historic T & G building, her Atelier is now based in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Under her direction her highly skilled team produce her signature couture garments and contemporary tailoring.
“I think the clothes we create have an enduring quality and that’s always interested me. I’m interested in the cut, the workmanship, and the fabric. I’m very much a fabric person. I like working with natural materials and sustainability is at the core of our practice” Liz Mitchell has achieved an international reputation for her beautiful unique handcrafted bridal and occasion wear. She has designed for brides as far afield as London, the United States and Australia.
Liz loves to re-interpret classic feminine silhouettes. Growing up, she adored Christian Dior’s 50s collections with their flowing bias cut skirts and hourglass shapes. She is also a great admirer of contemporary masters of design, such as Issey Miayke, Giorgio Armani, and Vivienne Westwood.
Her exquisite, sophisticated evening garments are worn by an increasingly loyal clientele of high profile business and corporate women, celebrities and women who simply enjoy dressing up.
