Beautifully elegant and effortlessly stylish, Joanna and Mike celebrated a heartfelt ceremony and lively reception surrounded by their nearest and dearest. Joanna shares their story…

Our ceremony was very meaningful and emotional. My two brothers read a specially chosen scripture, and friends led us in a hymn. After being pronounced husband and wife, we invited both our sets of parents to join us, and our mothers prayed for our marriage. Afterwards, our guests joined us for afternoon tea on the church grounds. Mike and I gave a speech and told everyone what it meant to have them celebrating with us, and then we cut the cake.

While the wedding party enjoyed a fun photo shoot and picnic at Auckland Domain and the Parnell Rose Gardens, our guests were greeted with Champagne and canapés on arrival at the reception venue, and played with the giant Jenga set that my brother had made for us. Friends had spent the morning setting up the venue with the help of our stylist. Festoon lights hung across the ceiling, jars were decorated with gold glitter and paint, and filled with flowers and candles – it all looked so pretty. Each table setting had a printed placemat in pale pink with a verse written under the plate. There was also a menu, a wedding mad lib and a personal note that Mike and I had written to each guest.

Our reception brought so many laughs. Both fathers gave a speech as well as the maid of honour, best man and Mike. The speeches were broken up between our three-course dinner and it all worked so smoothly. After dessert everyone gathered around the dance floor where Mike and I sat back to back in chairs for the ‘shoe game’.

A dear friend of mine who had flown over from Singapore sang and played a song for us, which was very sentimental to me. The first dance was followed by lots more dancing. We had planned to leave early, but were having such a fun time with everyone that we stayed on a lot later. To end the evening, we brought out some sparklers for the send-off. It had been the most wonderful day.
