Tracey & Joseph

Tracey and Joseph exchanged vows at their favourite holiday destination, Wanaka, and celebrated at a beautiful reception choc-full of unique details that wowed their guests. Tracey shares their story…

The girls arrived at the ceremony spot by helicopter, and Joe and I exchanged our personal vows filled with laughter and love. We walked back down the aisle as our guests released helium balloons and then we all enjoyed Champagne from glittering hand-decorated magnums. At the ceremony, I wore a traditional lace gown lined with heavy latte silk-satin and a merino petticoat with pleated silk Georgette from the knee. I kept my accessories simple with a gold bracelet and bird earrings. As Joe and I had our photos taken atop Mt Roy, I slipped my petticoat off to reveal a short dress for the evening.

For our reception, we decided to put our own twist on a summer barbecue. Many of our guests had travelled to be with us, so it was an opportunity for us to spoil them with some good old-fashioned Kiwi hospitality. Our colour inspiration was pastels, gold and burlap, while natural materials, vintage sewing patterns, wildflowers, vintage plates and crystal glassware enhanced the theme. Instead of a head table, we mingled with our loved ones and let them sit where they wished.

Having a family of hunters and gatherers meant our menu included crayfish, whitebait, oysters and wild venison. Dessert was cupcakes and macarons. Our favourite drinks flowed from the bar, including a cocktail we had created, and we printed the recipe out for our guests to take home. Our cigar bar provided a great bonding session for the males, while the ladies were treated to jandals so they could dance until the early hours. We created a lounge area at the back of the barn to enable guests to relax and feel at home. Our stacked-cheese wedding cake provided endless nibbles for our guests throughout the night, and a ‘spirits bar’ went down well!

Our wedding was a celebration of us, a genuine fun-loving Kiwi couple who enjoy the good things in life – good company, good food, good wine and a good party.
