Kate & Gerardo
Kate and Gerardo fell in love with the beautiful vistas on Waiheke Island. They planned a gorgeous wedding there full of creative and unique touches. Kate tells us more…
We wanted a wedding location that you couldn’t find just anywhere in the world, and the beautiful, lush scenery on Waiheke Island is one of a kind – sure to impress Gerardo’s family making the trip over from Mexico. We escaped to the island a few days early, along with family and the wedding party, to begin the pre-wedding celebrations. While Auckland experienced thunderstorms we enjoyed beautiful hot weather, which I believe was a gift from my dad who I had lost to cancer in 2006. I spent hours researching creative ideas for our wedding, and purchased a lot of beautifully crafted handmade items to make our wedding unique. Colourful floral arrangements in glass vases were used as our table centrepieces, and the bridesmaids held rustic succulent pomanders instead of bouquets. Our guests enjoyed a ruffled wedding cake and cupcakes, and took home small bottles of tequila from Gerardo’s homeland as favours. Our year’s worth of planning all came together in one magical, overwhelming and surreal day that went extremely fast!
