Tash & Cody

RealWeddings4

After a treasure hunt-styled proposal, Tash and Cody set about preparing their New Year’s Eve nuptials. Tash describes their day...

Choosing the date, venue and colour theme for our wedding came very naturally. It had to be on 31 December in the remote seaside Coromandel town of Whangapoua. Cody’s family has a property there and it’s a remarkable place where we celebrate each New Year. To make it ready for our 145 guests, we had to install water and power, and level the site. After months of hard work, it was ready.

Our shared love of the New Zealand landscape and the colour green led to our enchanted forest theme. Our friends and families helped personalise our special day and their indescribable talents made our wedding unique.

Prior to the ceremony, we had photos taken at a few important locations: the small wooden church where Cody’s parents married, his family farm and the jetty Cody’s grandfather built many years ago.

We arrived at the ceremony by helicopter, where our guests had been treated to a dolphin display at Whangapoua beach. The heartfelt vows we had both written didn’t leave many dry eyes.

Our first dance at the reception was to the fun, upbeat Motown hit I Second That Emotion. After four hours of dancing, the countdown was on. As midnight struck we enjoyed a fireworks extravaganza, and then all the guests sang Happy Birthday, as my birthday is New Year’s Day.

We had the best day of our lives, as everything we’d organised from the venue and date to the photo shoot locations was meaningful to us.
