josie & robbie
With the help of some amazing family members, we spent a year making all sorts of bits and pieces to personalise our wedding. I made my veil, our stationery, the welcome signs, and collected knick-knacks to decorate the tables. My dad spent hours painting little plastic animals in gold and foraging in the forest to find the perfect wood for our wedding arch, and my mum made 500 metres of bunting! Rob’s cousin made our incredible cake. The day before our wedding it was all hands on deck to put up the decorations, signs, table settings and flowers.
Our adorable grandmas preceded my bridesmaids down the aisle as our flowergirls, then Dad and I walked down the aisle towards Rob, and I had a grin a mile wide. Before we knew it, we were walking back down the aisle as husband and wife, being showered in petal confetti.
Something that both of us felt really strongly about was that our wedding was as much about all of our guests as it was about us as a couple. Because of this, we put a lot of thought and effort into making sure everyone had a great time. Between the ceremony and the reception, we cut the cake, had cocktails and canapés, and played games outside; and for those who preferred the indoors we got colouring books, paper plane supplies, and packs of cards. We also had little cards for people to write to us, and a donkey piñata for people to leave messages in, which we will open on our first anniversary (the ‘paper’ anniversary).
After photos, we arrived at the reception dinner to a high-spirited welcome from our guests wearing Christmas cracker hats! We both love Christmas, and getting married the week before meant that we couldn’t resist putting a cracker at each place setting. The jokes inside doubled as a great icebreaker. Before we knew it, we were off downstairs to dance the night away to our incredible band.
It was the best, most fun day ever, and we were surrounded by the people we love most in the world. We couldn’t think of a better way to start our lives together.
