Living in New York meant that there were endless bridal options on offer; all of the major department stores have entire floors dedicated to weddings. I had purchased my gown and veil from Modes prior to moving, but I spent months pacing up and down Fifth Avenue searching for shoes, lingerie and jewellery. Surprisingly, I found that some of the most simple things were among the most difficult to find, such as a classic white corset, sleek ivory heels and satin robes for my bridesmaids and I to wear while having our hair and makeup done!
After making the long journey back to New Zealand, we spent a week reuniting with friends and family in our hometown. Finally, the big day arrived, and before we knew it, we were en route to the venue in our sashed-up Rolls Royce.
We never set a theme for our wedding, but we wanted everything to be timeless and a reflection of our taste. The venue didn’t require much styling – the chandeliers, antiques and large French doors leading into the courtyard provided the perfect backdrop. It also complemented the floral arrangements, Laduree gift boxes (for our guest favours), and gold calligraphy.
Most importantly, we wanted to celebrate the occasion with our favourite people that we don’t see nearly enough of now that we live so far away. It was a truly wonderful day filled with so many happy memories that we will treasure forever.
