Theresa & Sharleen
Theresa and Sharleen Cole-Swami gathered their family and friends for a stunning red, white and gold celebration of love in the Wairarapa. Theresa tells us their story…
We met at university and formed an instant friendship. After about five years Sharleen thought I was about to propose so went out of her way to beat me to it – on a beautiful Wellington evening she got down on one knee and asked me to marry her. On the day of our civil union we got ready separately with the help of our respective bridesmaids. Sharleen wore a beautiful traditional sari of red, white and gold, and my dress was a white halter-neck with red beading on the bodice to match Sharleen’s outfit. My talented sister made the bouquets and buttonholes from artificial flowers – we hope to treasure these forever. The highlight of the wedding for me was the ceremony – the weather was stunning, our celebrant was perfect and Shar’s vows took my breath away. After the ceremony we had the cutting of the cake, bubbles and canapés, and spent a wonderful time catching up with friends and family. We then progressed to the reception with an amazing meal, speeches, dessert, more drinks and the first dance. Then the party really started!
