Kiyomi & Tim
Kiyomi and Tim planned their destination wedding in a remote area of Vancouver Island, Canada, where Kiyomi grew up. The months of intense planning paid off, and the couple celebrated in style with family and friends. Tim fills us in on the details…
We wanted our wedding to be the most personal, unique and amazing experience for the two of us, but also an opportunity for two families to come together as one.
The venue is home to a gorgeous secluded beach and around 20 old logging cabins – the equivalent of good old Kiwi baches with bunk beds and no televisions. This hidden gem was a regular summer family holiday spot for Kiyomi as a child.
As family and friends started arriving days before the ceremony, they were greeted with a welcome hamper full of essential supplies like bug repellent, bread, homemade blackberry jam and ear plugs. We hired kayaks for the guests to use during their stay, while many guests remained on land to soak in the sun, sit around the campfire or admire the Canadian wildlife.
A geometric theme with a muted colour palette of blushes, blues, yellows and mints was reflected throughout, from the wedding party’s bowties and dresses, to the table decorations and stationery items.
The ceremony was held in a quiet grassy dell. The acoustic band played under the trees, and the children formed a parade armed with balloons and walked the aisle first.
The reception was held in a marquee – locally sourced food quickly disappeared, beautiful speeches were made, and the band played into the night. The celebration ended with a campfire, roasted marshmallows and lots of laughter.
